About The Role:
We have an immediate requirement for a Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist to join our immensely talented Whangarei office. You may have a couple of years in the industry or be solidly on your way to becoming chartered. If you want to be able to learn directly from senior experts while working on a variety of different and exciting projects from start to finish, this is the role for you.
As a Geotechnical Engineer at Cook Costello, you will:
Work under the guidance of senior engineers and engineering geologists who will provide advice and mentoring to grow your skill as a geo-professional.
Display excellent communication skills, an inquisitive mind, and a desire to ask questions and challenge conventions.
Work alongside civil and structural engineers, designers and surveyors to produce effective and “joined-up” solutions for our clients.
Undertake geotechnical site investigations, being closely involved in site testing and defining parameters for design.
Carry out site assessments, looking at the wider geomorphological picture and assessing stability and geotechnical risk to inform remediation measures or future development.
Delve into design and analysis for slope stability, retaining walls, soil nails/anchors, and other ground improvement methods.
Have a solid understanding of foundation design in a residential setting and a willingness to learn about more complex foundation systems.
Mentor junior staff to grow their skills and understanding, while developing your skills as a leader.

What We're Looking For:
Prior relevant work experience in New Zealand.
Relevant tertiary qualification - Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or Master of Engineering Geology.
2+ years’ experience as a geotechnical professional or relevant field.
Good understanding of NZ design codes, standards, and legislation.
Prior experience with engineering design software (e.g. SLIDE).
Experience with construction monitoring and quality assurance would be beneficial.
Experience in Project Management would be beneficial (additional training can be provided).
A real enthusiasm for engineering, problem solving and land development projects.
Excellent communication skills and strong report writing.
New Zealand Driver's License (Full).
And most importantly a fun/dark/dry/weird sense of humour!
